Why am I here? (Literally here –> Cleveland)

People think sailing happens on the big coasts: Atlantic, Gulf, Pacific. And they think marketing happens in major metropolitan areas. So why am I doing business from Cleveland – the Midwest – of all places? Because great sailing and great content marketing happen here.
 
I live less than a mile from Lake Erie. With an average depth of 62 feet, you may think it’s a glorified pond. But this lake – and all the Great Lakes – makes seasoned, dedicated sailors.
 
In the Midwest, we have hundreds of options: open water, bays, rivers, inland lakes, even “pond sailing.” We tow our boats to sailing venues from New York to Florida to Washington. Here, we sail for the thrill and love of it. We don’t get the glory, but we put in the work. We don’t seek fame, but we accept the accolades we win.
 
And in Cleveland, you’ll find some of the best and brightest content marketers out there; it’s the content marketing capital of the world! “Cleveland has a rich history of business publishing. The amount of content creators in this area per capita is second to none,” says Joe Pulizzi. And it’s true. I go to church with content creators. I volunteer at school with content creators. I race my Thistle against content creators (and then we create content about it). 
 
Great sailing and great content marketing. That’s why having a sailing-focused marketing business in Cleveland makes sense. That’s why I’m here.

My background

I’ve been creating marketing strategies and campaigns for businesses for more than fifteen years, both as a consultant and as an in-house marketer. Regardless of your audience – B2B or B2C – I focus on P2P content: person to person.

Together, we’ll take complicated topics and distill them into easily-understandable articles, blog posts, web copy, case studies and more. After all, the point of creating content is to communicate, not to confuse. We’ll focus on planning, creating and distributing a variety of engaging content to increase brand awareness and inform customers at all stages of the buying journey.

In preparation for my marketing journey, I received degrees in English and French from Miami University (go Hawks). My family and I race Thistles for fun (a 17-foot sailboat with a main, jib and spinnaker) and drive anywhere from Florida to Connecticut to Idaho to do it. I also enjoy disliking Oxford commas (but I’ll use them if I have to…).
